What changes in the room

Play changes what becomes possible in a room.

Applied improvisation is not about performing well. It creates a practical space where people can become more present, try another response and discover what they can build together.

Joy

Create the energy and permission that help people become present, curious and willing to participate.

Creativity

Loosen the need for a perfect first answer and make space for ideas that can grow through interaction.

Cooperation

Listen, respond and build with other people so that the group can create more than separate individuals can.

Play as a lens

More than an activity.

I am fascinated by cognitive biases and systems thinking. I use play as a lens for noticing the patterns we repeat, testing assumptions safely and discovering what else is possible.

At its best, play is joyful, serious and gently subversive. It gives us permission to question familiar rules, loosen fixed responses and try another way.

Play lets a group experience a different possibility before it has all the words to explain it.

Who I work with

Different rooms. The same invitation to play.

The purpose, pace and reflection change with the setting. Every workshop begins with the people in the room and what they should be able to experience together.

Why Max

I bring curiosity about people and systems into the same room.

I am an applied improvisation facilitator, community organiser and systems thinking enthusiast. I am interested in the hidden rules a group follows, the assumptions people stop noticing and the small changes that can shift a whole interaction.

Alongside my improv practice, I have more than 25 years of experience in technology, billing and complex transformations. That analytical background helps me distinguish a behaviour people can practise from a structural problem that play cannot solve.

You do not need a workshop title

Tell me about your group, setting or event.

Describe who will be in the room, what you want them to experience and what should become more possible afterwards. I will suggest a sensible first format.
