Arrive together
A low-pressure shared task gives people something to do before anyone has to introduce an impressive version of themselves.
Facilitation practice since 2017
This is a practice case drawn from my repeated community facilitation in Munich. It does not claim one client result or turn every Rice Cookie event into my workshop.
The recurring challenge
An international improv room can include experienced players, complete beginners, different accents, different cultural expectations and very different relationships with visibility. A friendly invitation helps, but the workshop design must carry that invitation into the first activity.
I co-manage and co-host Rice Cookie Improv. When I lead a workshop there, I begin with shared attention and low-pressure participation before asking for more complex creation.
Beginner-friendly is not a label. It is a sequence of choices about risk, clarity and belonging.
A repeatable workshop arc
A low-pressure shared task gives people something to do before anyone has to introduce an impressive version of themselves.
Pairs and small groups practise attention, acceptance and clear offers before the room moves into richer creation.
The group creates a scene, story, image or pattern that nobody could have planned alone.
Participants describe what helped, what made entry harder and what they want to try in another round.
What supports participation
What I avoid
Beyond the community room
A school, company or public community may have a different purpose, but people still need clarity, consent and a gradual route into participation.
Start from imagination and cooperation, with age, supervision and learning purpose shaping the format.
Create a shared point of contact without requiring agreement, confidence or a common performance background.
Connect a small observable experience to listening, handovers, creativity or adaptability without pretending play solves structural problems.
Find a public session
Visit the official Rice Cookie website for live workshop and show dates. The workshop cases on this site identify the sessions that I personally led.
